Pegboards’ Fourth Annual NFL Mock Draft

Mock drafts are a waste of time. Not only do Kevin and I rarely get more than a handful of picks right (and that’s on a good year), we also barely know any of the players in this year’s class. But that’s not why we do one for every NFL draft.

We do it because it’s fun, entertaining and Kevin likes taking some light-hearted jabs at me with inside humor. You probably enjoy that too, so let’s just get on with it.

The rules are the same as always. This year I’m drafting for the odd numbered picks and Kevin is doing the evens. We can make any trades that we want with our own picks, but must agree on a deal in order to swap an odd for an even.  Continue reading

This One’s for Peyton

As you get older you start realizing how much time you have wasted in your youth. This realization can easily make you feel depressed and anxious. Why didn’t I learn to play the guitar? Why didn’t I read all of those books? It’s a very difficult feeling to shake. You start making new goals and new promises to yourself. You imagine all you can accomplish if you just buckle down, starting today. You tell yourself there is still time.

Unfortunately sometimes it is too late. Sometimes your window of opportunity has closed. Sometimes you have no choice but to give up on a dream, a goal, or even a legacy.

Pegboards’ Third Annual NFL Mock Draft

Welcome to our third annual NFL Mock Draft! What we lack in analysis we make up for in poor attempts at humor! This year Kevin will be picking the odds and Jesse the evens. Trades are allowed and encouraged.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Jameis Winston, QB Florida St

Kevin: Finally a draft that actually has some talented QBs at the top of the board. Far more interesting than picking between two top tackles. You know what isn’t interesting? Trying to predict Jameis Winston’s off the field behavior. The first overall pick isn’t as risky as it used to be thanks to the rookie scale. So if he messes up off the field then it is what it is. But he is worth the risk. It is a good fit for Winston as he gets to throw to big ol’ Vincent Jackson and hand off to Doug Martin.

2. Tennessee Titans- Marcus Mariota, QB Oregon:

Jesse: I desperately tried to avoid slotting Mariota to the Titans here. I thought that Kevin would bite if I let him know that the Titans were interested in moving back. No dice. Then I attempted to work out a deal with one of my other teams. Nothing came to fruition. Finally, I contemplated passing on Mariota all together and taking someone else. Alas, it was futile. I do think that some team is going to trade up and get him (Cleveland reportedly already offered two first-rounders to do just that) but in this scenario, Tennessee had a chance to land their first franchise QB since Steve McNair. And they took it.

Mo’ Playmakers Mo’ Problems

Sports fans sure have changed. Before all fans did was cheer on the guys in their favorite team’s jerseys. These days though, it seems that everybody is an armchair GM. It is honestly my favorite part of being a fan. I love to imagine the decisions I would make if it were my team.

Of course being a fan I only have a limited amount of knowledge. I don’t pretend to completely understand all of the workings of the salary cap. And I am no expert when it comes to understanding all of the intricacies of building a roster. But I can pretend and that is what I am going to do here today.

The Champ of an Era by Jesse Schaffer

I had been prepping this post for a few days. With free agency starting, I knew that a decision on Champ Bailey was coming and that there was no way that he would be retained with his $10 million salary. Originally, I was going to discuss the avenues the Broncos could take in order to keep Champ around for a while longer and decrease the cap hit that he would have. There were ramifications for all of these options, but I was confident that the two sides could find common ground and reach a compromise. But the Broncos weren’t waiting for my opinion. They weren’t waiting for anybody, and in the end, they pulled the trigger and cut ties with one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.

NFL QB Series: Part 2

Welcome to the other side. If you haven’t read part 1 of Pegboard’s First Annual QB Series, then please read no further and go back to part 1 (I’d give you a link but we are cheap bastards and haven’t upgraded to a premium account on WordPress yet). If you’re still here, I’m assuming that you already read part 1 or you just don’t give a shit about spoilers, in which case read on!

NFL QB Series: Part 1

The best day of the year has finally arrived. The NFL Kickoff for the 2013-2014 season is here and Pegboard could not be any more excited. In anticipation of the upcoming NFL season we are counting down the best NFL quarterbacks going into the season. Our goal is to countdown the quarterbacks based on who we would want as our starter for this upcoming season. We spent many hours arguing over questions like ‘which backup quarterback we would rather have?’ and ‘which former 1st round pick is more disappointing?’ so that you didn’t have to. Some spots on the countdown proved to be very difficult (damn you Tony Romo) so we broke ties with things like upside, consistency and stats. Part 1 is the lower half of the league. It lists the quarterbacks that are serviceable at best. We hope you enjoy and look for Part 2 to come out soon.

Pegboard’s First Annual Mock Draft

Hello and welcome to our First Annual Mock Draft. It also happens to be our first non-television related article ever. In this mock draft we play the roles of the GMs for many teams. We decided to go back and forth between the two of us to make it more challenging. We flipped a coin (Kevin was victorious) to decide who picked for the odd teams and who picked for the even teams. We allow trades in any form so if Jesse wanted to trade for an odd numbered pick then he would have to make a deal with Kevin. If he wanted to trade for an even numbered pick he could trade himself. The rules are simple, the stakes are pretty low and the analysis is sub-par (on Kevin’s end at least). Please enjoy.
